SEMOPS facilitates not only retail but also business to business transactions. There are different payment types that can be selected by the users like prompt payment, value date, or recurring payments. Cross border payments are facilitated with the conversion feature offered. The real time refund handling, which is also a standard function, makes the SEMOPS service real unique.
Payments are not limited by values either, as both micro and macro transactions can be performed.
Online payment: When customers look for a product WAPing with the handset, or browsing the web with smartphones, they select the desired product or service and initiate SEMOPS payment on the device. At this point the customer receives the necessary payment information using GPRS or in an SMS message.
The service can be used for buying digital content – usually a micro payment transaction - like ring tones, op logos, games, music and videos, information, and adult content or tangible products and services of different values. Payment can also be made for special services like on-line games, where a special refund feature is also available for paying out the wins.
Parking payment: With SEMOPS, remote parking payment is possible, avoiding the hassle with the meters and coins. The customer is sending the payment through its payment processor to the parking company, who starts running a temporary parking permit.
When the controllers find a car without a valid ticket they first communicate with the central database and verify whether the car has a valid mobile parking permit or does not.
Ticket purchase: Customers are buying their tickets using mobile web on their phones and paying with SEMOPS. When the merchant receives the payment confirmation, ticket is sent electronically in the form of an SMS message to the mobile handset. When the ticket is presented for control, the controller reads the screen with a special device and checks the validity of the ticket.
Top up of prepaid account: In this case customers are practically transferring money from one of their bank accounts to another account, the prepaid one, real time. This transaction can be used for topping up mobile accounts or any other accounts managed by retailers or other service providers. (With the SEMOPS service payment can be performed by debiting these prepaid accounts as well.)
Person-to-Person payment (P2P): Money transfer between two individuals. The transaction is completed within a few seconds the beneficiary is notified real time about the transfer.
Virtual POS (vPOS): With the SEMOPS service, merchants now can use their mobile handsets or PC-s to receive funds. The mobile device works as a virtual POS terminal
POS transaction: For the SEMOPS service the existing traditional POS terminals are modified, reprogrammed. The terminal transmits the transaction information via IrDA, Bluetooth or RFID to the customer’s handset. The payment confirmation is arriving to the POS terminal as usual and the slip is printed.
Payment at vending machines: The vending machine is capable of transferring the transaction details to the customer – like a POS terminal- and upon receiving the payment confirmation, it provides the selected product. (This payment solution can also be tied into the remote management of the vending machines.)
ATM transaction: Customers select the amount they wish to withdraw from the ATM, receive the transaction details, approve the transaction and when the ATM receives the authorization to issue the money customers can take the cash. The ATM behaves like a vending machine selling cash.
Self check-out: SEMOPS facilitates improved store logistic and could allow customers to check out themselves at unmanned POS terminals. The terminals are reading the price tags, transmit the payment information to the customer’s handset, and receive the payment confirmation from the bank. This self service solution allows customers to avoid staying in lines during the peak hours, and also increases the capacity of the stores.
Electronic bill payment: A good combination of mobile and internet transactions can be realized in case of electronic bill presentment and payment. The total amount of an invoice is sent to the mobile device, while detailed figures can be accessed over the internet. Should customers be interested only in the bottom line they can perform the SEMOPS payment from the handset directly, or alternatively if the details need to be known as well, the same invoice is accessible and payable also from the internet.
The WEBPAY button: The SEMOPS service is introducing a new approach for internet payments. Customers have a special software application (module) received from their banks that installs itself into the browser of the customer. This program appears on the screen as a menubar that can be personalized by the user.
Key icon on the menubar is the WebPay button that is used to initiate payments once products are selected on the merchants website, and the customer proceeded to check out.

The customer receives the transaction data from the merchant, and the special SEMOPS module prepares automatically the payment request that appears on the screen. The customer does not need to manually input any information - except the PIN for authorizing the transaction – before the payment request is sent to the payment processor.
The merchant’s system is capable of evaluating the payment confirmation received from the bank, automatically. If the transaction is approved the service can be performed instantly by the merchant.
Refund: The SEMOPS service is also capable of performing real time refund. This feature also allows real time payout of winnings of on-line games.
Auction payment: The peculiarity of the auction transactions are that the customer wishes to see the product first before payment is performed but merchants also want to be sure that they will receive the purchase price if the performance is correct.
The solution is the escrow service provided by the action house supported by the SEMOPS payment service. A conditional payment confirmation is sent to the seller real time, while the actual money is sent to the escrow agent. Merchants will only be paid if there is no customer complaint within a limited period of time. If customers complain payment is stopped until the escrow agent investigates the issue, and based on its findings the money is either refunded or paid out to the merchant. |
